Brooke-Walder Fine Art is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by artist David Jacobson’s (b.1951), on view at 54thegallery. This exhibition - which is in support of WaterAid - will be the first solo presentation of the artist’s work with the gallery and the first solo show in London since 2008.
In the exhibition, Jacobson examines the implications of the global water crisis. 72 boxes of 3 varying sizes create 24 sculptures, each representing one of the 24 time zones. The outer walls of the boxes are inscribed with drawings and marks of a location in each time zone. Sat atop each large box, is a smaller box that holds a working clock. This clock indicates the current time of each respective location. Within each large box, is a final small box, which contains a three-by-one centimetre bottle of water, the last drop of water on Earth. Each sculpture of these nested boxes represents a time bomb, a certain inevitability towards the last drop of water. However, Jacobson encapsulates the inherent urgency and presents a call for action in a global need to come together to preserve and protect our planet’s clean waters.
“There may be beauty in the objects but what they mean is ugly, frightening and perverse” - David Jacobson
By working in support of WaterAid, 50% of the profits from this exhibition will be donated to help ensure the futurity of our water.
