Brooke-Walder Gallery is delighted to announce My life in Revolt. It brings together five figurative works on paper by Eileen Agar (1899–1991), offering an intimate glimpse into her bold and imaginative approach to the human form. Known as a key figure in the Surrealist movement and for her refusal to be confined by societal expectations, Agar worked across painting, collage, photography, and sculpture. Her figures are never simply anatomical—they are symbolic, dreamlike, and often joyfully strange.

While studying at the Slade School of Fine Art, one of her tutors, Philip Wilson Steer, remarked that she “saw the world in heightened colours.” It was an early recognition of her vivid perception and her instinct to transform what she saw into something more poetic, more charged.
My Life in Revolt opens a door into a world where figures shift, merge, and speak in unexpected ways—a world in which figuration becomes a space for resistance, reinvention, and play.
